The Birthplace of Basketball

Back in the winter of 1891, Dr. James Naismtih (pictured on the left) created the game of Basketball. During this time, Naismith was teaching a physical education class at the International YMCA Training School, what is now known as Springfield College, located in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The innovativion and creativy from Naismith derived from within as he felt obliged to keep his physical education classes interested in his class. He knew it would be hard to gain interest for most of his kids were a part of meaningful sports teams such as football, prior to his class. But Naismith never lost confidence despite being informed that two professors had already failed in an attempt to create something new. Instead, it became pretty evident that the past failures lit a fire under his belt to leave room for something big.
Naismith proceded from his theory to the reality of making it happen. He envisioned two box like figures put on opposite sides of some type of court and placed higher up so that some type of ball has to be toss into the basket instead of thrown in. The rules and overall look of the game of basketball has changed immensely today but the rules today had a blueprint to go off of. After Naismith realized that his "basket ball" as it was called had the potential to be something big, he implemented the 13 original rules of basketball.
