The sport of basketball would not be the same it is today without the City of Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. James Naismith, back in 1891, invented the game of basketball in a Physical Education class at what is now known as Springfield College. From 1891 to present day, the game of basketball is still played off of Naismith's original vision. This occurence is known as history and tradition. The NCAA is known for it's rich history as is the City of Springfield. History is what creates memories, it's what instruments a continuum of success. When the NCAA is talked about, the past is brought up constantly. Whether this be by a reference to a former player or a great tournament run by a team for example. No matter what, the history of this game will always be present. But, without the spark to all of this history, these happenings would be imaginary. Springfield's has instilled a culture revolving around it's rich history of the game having the Basketball Hall of Fame downtown. That being said, why not further develop the tradition of this incredible game in the City that created the blueprint for it's history.
